About Three Squirrels and a Nut

We are an a cappella quartet. That’s right: no instruments, no backing tracks, just the pure human voice.

  • Colin Court - Tenor

Known as Mr Music, Colin is the only instrumentalist in the group – by which we mean he’s the one that blows the pitch pipe. Initially a chorus bass singer, Colin started out as our baritone. But then he had an epiphany when he heard the elevated tones of Tenor calling him. Colin is also our chief organiser without whom the rest of us would have no idea what we were doing. And if you’d like to book the quartet, Colin’s the man to talk to.

Colin would like to state categorically that he is not the Nut.

  • Nick Ellis - Lead

Front man Nick is the one you’ll hear most of if you come to one of our gigs. He’s also the one that cracks the whip at rehearsals. Initially singing the tenor part, Nick decided he needed more of the limelight so switched to Lead. Occasionally he steps aside to let Damian shine, swapping into baritone. Don’t ask Nick to sing bass though. Nick has been known to arrange a tune or two for us to sing and call our own.

Nick strenuously denies that he is the Nut.
  • Damian Jones - Bari

Known for his youthful good looks, Damian is the poster boy of the quartet. Probably the most flexible of the four, Damian started out as lead but found himself drawn towards the dark and mysterious arts of the Baritone part. He’s got a pretty fruity lower range too, so you’ll occasionally hear him on bass. And when we need a romantic lead to set the ladies’ hearts a-flutter, Damian’s our man. Damian would like to sing tenor too, but Colin won’t let him.

Damian is adamant that he is not the Nut.
  • Rowe Sandberg - Bass

Our most diverse member, Rowe, is the quartet’s chief raconteur, renowned for her lengthy recounting of stories at quartet rehearsal long after we should have started singing. Enjoying an over 40-year history of a cappella singing, much of that in top Swedish choruses, Rowe brings a depth of vocal expertise to the group. Though usually our Bass singer, Rowe occasionally dabbles in the baritone part.

Rowe will argue until you are blue in the face as to why she couldn’t be the Nut.
